Back from vacation......

Went to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina for a few days to visit my son Jonathan. He's been working all summer long helping run conventions at Western Carolina University. He starts training this week to be a Resident Assistant in the dorms and won't be able to make it home before school starts.

As long as the rain and thunder can hold off I'll be having fun Hooping tonite at the North Hills Midtown Beach Music Series on the Commons (near Monkees and Ben&Jerry's). I love to hoop to live music.

I've also decided to bring a few of my Hoop Creations with me tonite for anyone wanting to see the real product. I feel a little strange doing this since it is basically selling hoops out of the trunk of my car. I feel a little bit dirty doing this, but I get so many people asking at these events that I can't help myself.

If you see me there....come over and say HI!.

Back to the Flea Market Sunday July 26th

Canceled!!!! I'm very sorry, but I've decided that 94 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rain is not good for spending the day at the Flea Market. I'll post the next location I'll be selling at. I've had a very good time the last few weeks at the NC State Fairgrounds (map) selling hoops at the Flea Market. I've met a lot of great people and introduce or reintroduced them to hooping. The crowd is very diverse so I get a mix of young and old.

The young have used hoops in school or on the Nintendo Wii's WiiFit programs. Most of the younger crowd are fearless and will try anything....and most of them love the hoops.

The old(er) remember the Wham-O Hula Hoop days of the 60's and either loved or fear the toy then. The ones you can get to try the hoops I make are amazed they can do it and fall in love all over again. There is nothing better than the looks and gasps of joy when they realize "they can still hoop".

Quoting Dan Rodick, director of sports promotion at Wham-O, "There is no other product that gives me as much fear and respect for the power of mass culture as the hula hoop."

Hope to see all of you out at the Flea Market. I'll be there this Sunday July 26th from 9am-4pm in the Park. Even if you don't want to buy a hoop or are already a hoopdancer, come out and have some fun. I bring music, have a few hoops to share and love to have others join in with me.

Hi Fellow Hoopers,

Just a quick note to tell you about some awesome places to enjoy live music and hoop dance your day away....for FREE.

  • Every Thursday Evening 6-9pm North Hills Mall (Raleigh).

Midtown Beach Music Series on the Commons (near Monkees and Ben&Jerry's). Live Beach Music including some of the best area Beach and dance bands. Outside in the park. They block off the streets, sell food and drinks. They have a dance floor setup in front of the stage, but it's too crowded to hoop. Just bring your hoop and find an open area. For more info click here.

  • Every Friday Evening all summer 6-9pm Triangle Town Commons.

Concert in the Commons. Located outside at Triangle Town Commons (the exterior shopping and dining area), Live bands of different genres including Jazz, Blues, Top 40, Beach are there throughout the summer. No dance floor but lots of outer area to find a place to hoop. For more info click here.

  • Koka Booth Ampitheatre in Cary. If you don't mind being outside the venue, it is a very nice spot to enjoy hooping You can hear everything going on inside...but you can't see the bands. There are a few benches for taking a rest and a lake view to take in. The not-so-perfect part is......insects and duck droppings. For more info click here.
